This project is used Van Dyke process, which was first invented in 1842 by the English astronomer, Sir John Herschel and utilizes the action of light on ferric salt. The coated paper is exposed in sunlight and then processed. The Van Dyke process gets its name from its similarity in color to the deep brown pigment used by the Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck.
